Hooray for the Republican Majority!

You read that right, I am rooting for a Republican majority.  In the house anyway, but likely the Senate is gone too.  For me it's part, "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer" and part "enough rope to hang themselves".  I liken the backlash against Democrats to a rebound relationship.  "Hope and Change tm" comes and it sweeps you off your feet. Then you wake up one morning alone, you were cast aside for corporate interest.  Now you're pissed and those Democrats are gonna pay.  Then you meet the Tea Party, once again you feel the rush of life, warm and familiar, yet new and exciting.  Just the way for you to express your distaste for "Hope and Change tm" without going full Republican.  (i.e. Rand Paul)

The coming months should expose the conservative obstructionism for exactly that.  The right thinks it has a good chance to take back the whitehouse in 2012.  I expect to see the Republicans attempt to handcuff Obamas already comporomised agenda thinking they can saddle Democrats and specificallly Obama with blame for the sorry state of the union.   I don't think it works this time. Unless something drastic happens, I believe Obama will be re-elected.   Much like Bush and his "Political Capital" Obama should flex if he has the chance in his second term.

Sunlight is the best dis-infectant my friends, and putting this class under collective scrutiny should be just what the doctor ordered for the ailing progressive agenda.

Speaking of change...

I have been contemplating technology alot lately.  Humans and technology have always had a symbiatic relationship.  Since the first humans figured out it was easier to kill prey with a sharp rock and/or stick than with their bare hands, man has endeavored on a relentless drive to make life easier with technology.

As a professional tech geek I am exposed to cutting edge technology on a constant basis.  While the things we do now are quite amazing,  I am blown away by mans ingenuity throughout the ages.  I intend to explore some of what I consider to be the pinnacles of human achievement. This may turn into a series, cause there is lots to cover, either that or I am easily impressed, I digress.

I am going to go chronologically here (roughly)... From the top.

Sticks and stones - There's a reason the term "sticks and stones may break my bones, blah blah blah blah blah blah..." It's cause someone got their ass broke by a stick and/or stone. The stick and stone, when weilded properly give a decided advantage in combat, be it for food or fury.  Early man seperated itself from the rest of the fauna on earth by adapting these tools to aid survival, so they come in at number one on my list.

Shelter - Now that man has mastered sticks and rocks it's able to claim some of those cozy caves and settle down a bit. Now if you've ever spent any significant time in a cave, you will notice in most cases it's quite cold.  So it was very convenient when right around that same time man discovered...

Fire - Now fire, fire is the VIT (Very Important Technology) of the stone age. Arguably fire is the most important discovery of all.  The application of fire is wide ranging and far reaching, an integral part in the advancement of technology.  It also makes a tasty steak.

This is a good stopping point seeing as the Packer game is on and I just happen to need to start the fire to make that tasty steak I mentioned earlier.

The more things change...

It's been nearly three years since I last posted a blog entry and boy what ride.  The first black President has been elected.  The greatest financial super power in the world was brought to its knees by greed.  Combat operations in Iraq have ended. Brett Favre has gone from hero to zero.  I have changed jobs twice and at least three new human entries into the book of life have been created in my world of friends.  Those are just the ones off the top of my head.

The more things change though, the more they stay the same.  The rich are still getting richer at the expense of the common man.  Partisan politics dictate what does and doesn't get done in D.C., war rages in a far off land.  In short the masses of humanity suffer (sometimes art and reality overlap, thank you Greg Graffin for having such a grip on both) while the marrionettes tug on the strings.

That is the purpose for this and my previous blog, which are my avenue of exploring the human conditiion, and trying to peel back some of lifes facades.  This is an open forum and all perspectives are welcome, speech here is as free as it gets.
